The main objective of the Great EcoKids Challenge is to undertake an activity that will contribute positively to the health of the planet while involving as many people, from the school and community, as possible.
To be eligible to enter, you must be an organized group such as an elementary school class, extra-curricular club, girl guides, scouts, or other youth group.
To increase your chances of winning, we suggest that your school or group adheres to the following criteria.
-
Contributes to the health of the environment:
Do you have a new composting program? Have you planted a native garden? -
Produces positive outcomes:
Is less waste being sent to the landfill as a result of your recycling program? Do students in your school use reusable containers instead of disposable containers for lunch? -
Encourages student participation and leadership:
Are your activities student initiated? Is there a high level of participation by your club and school? -
Impacts positively on the local community:
Is your group involved in community activities such as park clean ups and other community events? Do members of the local community get involved in your club's activities?
BONUS points are awarded for creativity, quality of supplementary materials, and use of EcoKids material.
Entries should consist of:
- A completed application form (available online). Any questions? Please e-mail Earth Day Canada.
- Any images, drawings, designs, poems, artwork, community newspaper articles that you wish to include to supplement your entry.
- A list of EcoKids materials used in the research, design, and/or implementation of your activity.
This year's deadline is Friday, May 16, 2008.
Good luck, EcoKids!
