This year we worked hard to involve our community in our activities. We began with our Community Cleanup where we went to four different venues (the Communiplex, baseball diamonds, Elks park, and the skateboard park), and helped to clean up the garbage. The entire school took part, and we learned how important it is to produce less waste, and not litter! We decided to write letters to the town council asking for more garbage containers so that these public spaces would be cleaner.
We also worked on greening our schoolyard by planting in planters around our school. We fundraised to purchase supplies and we were able to plant these ourselves, getting flowers from the local greenhouse and putting the planters out in front of the school. We also pulled the weeds and grass from around the tree in front of our school and planted pansies in their place. To make this project even more interesting, we decided to grow our own flowers in the spring for both the planters and the tree. In early March we planted geraniums, pansies, petunias and other plants. To keep this project environmentally-friendly, we grew these plants in recycled pots and containers.

Our projects are growing from year to year. We are always very eager to participate in the planning of more projects, and thoroughly enjoy making our projects part of the school curriculum. This year, we even got to present our projects to the entire school in an assembly. The newspaper featured us and we have had great support from our parents and community.
