This year we promoted our Anti-idling Campaign. We were very concerned about the school buses that park adjacent to the Kindergarten classrooms and leave their engines running for 20 minutes each morning. In response to this problem, we wrote letters to the director and the bus company in order to encourage an anti-idling policy. Because we are a rural school, we have 14 buses coming to our school every day, that park very close to the school.
For Earth Day, we made posters to decorate the school. Each student chose their own message to write and made a colourful impact on our school. We also worked to enhance the greening of our school. We planted white oak saplings in our shade house this year, as well as selling Earth Day tattoos to fundraise for new hoes for our Ecology Club.
To reduce waste, we had a school-wide litterless lunch day on March 23rd, 2007. Every student who participated received an Earth Day rubber wrist band for their efforts. Over 1/3 of the school participated, showing how successful this event was. We also worked on a school yard cleanup to keep waste from showing up on our playground.
