Orleans Montessori

This year we continued many of the environmental activities that we have implemented in the past. We encouraged waste-free lunches and participated in clean-up days where we picked up garbage from the school grounds. We also continued our composting program and used reusable and recyclable materials for crafts.

Many community members participated in our Earth Day activities. A parent came in to show us what types of materials can be recycled and what bin they belong in. This demonstration was a very helpful refresher for us. The other activities that we participated in included making weather dials, eggshell grass plants, and watching the film "A Closer Look at Earth". These activities were very enjoyable and we learned about climate and about plant growth

We tried to involve our community in our activities as much as possible, so this year we participated in a neighbourhood cleanup which coincided with the city of Ottawa´s "Spring Cleaning the Capital" campaign. We worked hard to reduce the amount of waste on public property that surrounds our school and on the school grounds.
