This year we tried to improve upon the environmental initiatives that had already been started in our school. We recycle and reuse paper, we compost every day, and we award those that do it properly. We celebrate Earth Day every year by picking up garbage, talking about the Earth and planning ways to help the environment. We also encourage everyone to bring in litterless lunches.
We decided that a good way to get students interested in environmental issues would be to broadcast an EcoKids message everyday during our school announcements. We had a volunteer go down and read a special message each morning to the rest of the school. Our students love to go outdoors for classes. We have lots of greenery around our school and we plan to plant even more trees and flowers each year! We often go on fieldtrips to Kingfisher Lake where we learn about the local wildlife. These trips remind us to be environmentally-friendly because we all want to make sure that we do our part to help keep this beautiful nature preserve safe for all the animals and plants that live there.
We are proud to be recognized as a Jade school by the SEEDS foundation. We have completed nearly 300 projects. We are very proud of our environmental action and have even been featured on T.V., radio and newspapers. Other schools are now asking us how to start environmental action in their school! We´re striving to be a model environmental school for all of the schools in our district, and we know that together, we can all do great things for the environment!
