Duke of Connaught Jr. and Sr. Public School

During this school year, we continued to reduce, reuse and recycle. We do this on a weekly basis to make sure recyclable items do not end up in the landfill. This year we have increased the number of school-wide litterless lunch days. We have decided that next year we want to add prizes as incentives to improve school participation.

This year, we went to our local park and rugby field on April 19th to clean up. We were very excited to have the event televised as it was last year. We decided that cleaning up neighbourhood areas was such a good idea that we involved the Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten classes and their older "buddies" in cleaning up the Jonathan Ashbridges estate – a large yard nearby that was in desperate need of a cleanup.

We also like to get the word out about the environment, so we make sure to have weekly announcements and periodic assemblies about environmental issues. This year, every single class in our school is growing plants to help green our school grounds. We planted these in the school yard on our annual Greening Day.

April Hodgins.
