C.H. Norton Public School

This year we have been very active in a number of environmental initiatives. We were one of the first schools in our region to demonstrate an interest and participate in the Halton Region Greencart program, a program that diverts waste from the curb. We were even featured in our region´s newsletter!

Our club is responsible for overseeing our school-wide recycling program. We make announcements and make sure that students are recycling properly. During Earth Day we presented our idea of a school-wide litterless lunch program to students in an assembly. We are hopeful that we will be able to begin this project in the near future. We also created a series of beautiful posters that we displayed around the school, created environmental messages that were posted in the hallways and visited classrooms promoting the use of the Greencart program. Our current project involves exploring how various items are biodegradable. We have planted some garbage and we´re waiting to see what happens to it over time. For our next project, we will be studying butterflies. We look forward to hatching and releasing butterflies into our community.

We are serious about taking care of our Earth and we passionately undertake various projects to make a difference around our school. We look forward to continuing many of these initiatives next year and throughout the rest of our lives. We know we are having a significant and positive impact on the Earth and we want to keep it up!

Linda Roganowicz.
