Raft River Elementary school

This year, we are most excited about the construction of a new school garden plot. We have wood that was donated to the school for the frame, we also had some soil and aged manure donated as well. We celebrated the first dig on April 20th. The press was called for this exciting event, and through the construction of a garden plot, we have joined three other schools in our school district that also have garden plots.

We are always working hard to make our school more environmentally friendly. We participate in the SEEDS program and have achieved Jade status. We recycle all white and coloured paper in the school as well as juice containers. On April 21st, 2007, our team of "Earth Girls" participated in an environmental Mind Grind competition in Kamloops. This allowed our school to participate in an environmental competition with other schools in the area. It is because of all these activities and others like them that we have been designated a Jade School.

For our upcoming school assembly, we are putting together a combination of exercise and rap songs about global warming. We are also writing and acting out a short skit for our entire school that focuses on the issue of global warming and how we as a planet will be affected. We hope that Earth Day continues to have a great impact on more schools and individuals both in Canada and around the world!
