| Antigonish students clean up the school yard. |

As we already have a composting and recycling program at our school that is very successful, we decided that this year, we would focus more on environmental awareness. In order to do that, we started a school yard clean up each month. We have also produced and acted in two school plays called Destroy the Earth and The Three R´s. Everyone in our school had a part. Our objective was to show how careless we can be with our Earth and to teach the audience that we need to change our actions so that we can start taking better care of the planet.
For Earth Day, we created posters and hung them up all around the school – we decided afterward that we would keep them up to remind us to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We also worked hard to plant Milkweed, which is indigenous to our area, and will provide food for Monarch Butterflies. We are hoping next year to be able to hatch and release Monarch Butterflies. For now, we have their favourite food in our school gardens!
