Earth Day Canada & EcoKids
Earth Day Canada coordinates the annual celebration of Earth Day across Canada. As a not-for-profit, environmental education and communications organization, Earth Day Canada develops and provides award-winning programs and resources to help Canadians improve the environment in their communities. Earth Day Canada's mission is to improve the state of the environment by empowering and helping Canadians to take positive environmental action. This is achieved by welcoming Canadians from all walks of life into a process of lifestyle change. ecoMentors is a Program of Earth Day Canada. The ecoMentors program provides support and resources to high school volunteers to make everyday Earth Day.
EcoKids is Earth Day Canada's environmental education program for youth who care about the planet. The EcoKids web site is an innovative, interactive environmental web site for children, their families, and educators in Canada and around the world. It offers topical information about the environment through interactive, fun, educational games and activities that utilize participants' willingness to learn. Children are encouraged to form their own opinions, make decisions, get involved and understand the impact their own actions have on the environment. Designed to inspire children to become life-long environmental stewards, EcoKids Online is an invaluable resource for educators, youth group leaders and parents. The ecoMentors Program often places high school volunteers in elementary classrooms that are EcoKids Clubs. These teachers and students are already involved in great curriculum-linked environmental education activities and are ready to welcome ecoMentors into their classrooms.
