ecoMentoring Finding a Host Classroom After you have signed up to become an ecoMentor and have completed our training session the next step is to choose a school in your area and a grade level you would like to ecoMentor. You have three ways to contact your host classrooms:
When you have found a host classroom, the real ecoMentoring starts! Choosing a topic The topic(s) that you teach will most likely be decided by the elementary teacher to fit in with the required curriculum, but you may have some input into what is taught. As an Environmental Educator, the lesson you teach should be focused on the environment and environmental issues. We offer you ready-to-use lesson plans that link to the Ontario Curriculum in Science and Technology and Social Studies according to the Integrated Environmental Education Framework of Ontario. These topics are commonly taught at the elementary level and are adapted to also focus on the environment. Besides the curriculum-linked lesson plans we have some special topics that relate to important environmental issues, such as The 3 R's, Oceans, Anti-Idling and the Ecological Footprint. Lesson Plan Template Want to make a new lesson plan? Download or print this free Lesson Plan Template to help plan your lessons. See using a lesson plan in your ecoMentor's handbook for detailed information about each section of the plan and please let the ecoMentor Program Manager know what topic you are working on!
