Red Sandy Beaches

Red Sandy Beaches

Did you know P.E.I. has over 800 km of sandy shoreline that is filled with red and pink (yes pink!) beaches? But why does P.E.I. have red sand instead of the usual white or brown? Prince Edward Island was formed a long time ago on sedimentary bedrock of soft, red sandstone, which produces rich, red soil. The soil is red because it has a lot of rust in it. With some of the warmest waters north of Virginia, U.S., along with the red and pink sands, the P.E.I. beaches are definitely a cool place to visit!

Confederation Bridge

Confederation Bridge

Did you know Confederation Bridge is the world's longest bridge over ice-covered waters? Located between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, it stretches 13 km (about the length of 130 football fields put together!) and takes about 10 minutes to cross it by car. The bridge was built 40 metres above water because it needs to endure winter ice flows.

Founder's Hall

Founder's Hall

How exactly did Canada become a country? In 1864 a group of men known as the "Fathers of Confederation" came together in Charlottetown, P.E.I. and shared a vision for a great country. After a lot of talking, this Charlottetown meeting gave birth to a country! Founder's Hall is a tribute to P.E.I.'s important role in Canadian history as the "Birthplace of Confederation".
