Fortune Bay
Newfoundland is known for the abundance of marine animals that can be seen from the shore. Fortune Bay is one of the best places to see at least 15 different species of whales, dolphins and porpoises. Fortune Bay is 130 km long-about the distance a runner would have to run to complete three marathons! Its shores are lined with small fishing villages (the most important economic resource in Newfoundland).

Gros Morne National Park
A long time ago prehistoric volcanoes carved out the unusual landscape of Gros Morne National Park. Gros Morne Mountain is at the centre of the park, and its summit is about 806 metres from sea level, making it the second highest point in Newfoundland. The most fascinating attraction in Gros Morne National Park are the Tablelands, where a part of the Earth's mantle is exposed! It is said that this mantle was pushed up to the earth's surface 470 million years ago and because of the unusual terrain, no plants can ever grow there.

Johnson Geo Centre
