Ozone is a gas in the air that you can't see. There is a layer of ozone high up in the air that goes all the way around the Earth. The layer of ozone works just like a pair of sunglasses. It stops many of the sun's dangerous rays from coming down to Earth.
Many scientists are worried about the ozone layer. Tests show that the ozone layer is getting thinner. In some places there are holes in it!
What's happening to all of the ozone? Scientists found that some air pollution has chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (pronouced 'klawr-oh-flawr-oh-car-buns') or CFCs in it. CFCs can come from things like air conditioners, refrigerators, and some spray cans. CFCs make ozone break apart.
There is some good news. Many countries are trying to do things to stop CFCs from getting into the air. Yeah! You might see a lot of spray cans that say "No CFCs" on them now.
