Are Frogs In Trouble?

Many scientists are worried about frogs. They've discovered that frogs all around the world are disappearing and they're not sure why.

alien abduction

Are frogs being abducted by aliens from outer space? — Probably not.

Most frogs live part of their lives in water and part of their lives on land. This 'double life' means 'double trouble' - they face more dangers than most other animals.

Frogs, toads, salamanders and newts, are all kinds of amphibians (am - fib - ee - uhn) . The word amphibian comes from the Greek word amphibia that means "double life." Frogs are said to have a double life because they live part of it in water and part of it on land.

Some of the threats frogs face are:

  • loss of habitat
  • climate change
  • chemical pollution
  • thinning ozone layer
  • acid rain
  • roads

Disappearing frogs could be telling us that the planet isn't very healthy and we need to jump into action - NOW!

The great news is that lots of people - governments, nature groups and kids just like you - are doing things to try to help save frogs and their habitat. You can help too!

The more you know about frogs, the more you can help save them. EcoKids Online has made lots of cool games and activities about frogs and their habitats. So, "Leap in and Learn about Frogs" and be part of the solution!
