Unique Qualities:

A lobster can be right handed or left handed! It has eight legs and two claws. One claw is used for crushing things and the other is used for holding things. The side the crusher is on, determines whether the lobster is right handed or left handed. Look for the bigger claw!

Around Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in the North Atlantic and down the coast to North Carolina.

Likes to Hang Out:

Hiding between seaweed in shallow waters along the coast or digging burrows in mud on the ocean floor.

Likes to Eat:

Anything - including crabs, clams, mussels, fish and sea urchins.

Status:

Scientists believe that the American lobster population is being overharvested for human consumption. As a result, the government and lobster fishers are working on ways to provide for the continued health of the lobster as it is a valuable resource.
