Unique Qualities:
These evergreen shrubs can grow to a height of 1 metre with weird shaped, woolly branches. New leaves that grow have white hairs beneath them and new twigs are covered with brown hairs. Bees are attracted to the flowers that Labrador tea plants sprout.
Can be Seen:
The Labrador tea plant can be seen in the very cold climates of northern Canada, specifically the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, stretching into the Arctic Circle. The Labrador tea plant loves cooler temperatures that the tundra summers can bring.
Likes to Hang Out:
The Labrador tea plant hangs out on moist acidic soils and in cold bogs. They also like to hang out in the open canopies of coniferous forests.
Benefits of the Plant:
The Labrador tea plant has a nice smell and a spicy taste. It can be used to heal coughs, itch, leprosy, fevers, sore throats and even to kill lice!
Status:
The Labrador tea is considered threatened in more southern habitats but flourishes in the north.
