The painted lady butterfly has a two-week life span. During that time, its main goal is to reproduce and lay eggs so the cycle can begin again!

Can be Seen:

This flying insect lives in temperate and some tropical areas. It ranges from central and southern Canada, south through Florida and Mexico. It can also be found in parts of Europe, Asia and Africa.

Likes to Hang Out:

Almost everywhere, especially in open areas such as old fields and dunes. They can even be seen in your own garden!

Likes to Eat:

The painted lady prefers nectar from plants one to two metres high, especially thistles; also aster, cosmos, blazing star, ironweed and joe-pye weed. Other frequented flowers include red clover, buttonbush, privet and milkweeds.

Status:

The Painted Lady is found everywhere in the world except South America, the Poles, and Australia. These are such common butterflies that they need no special conservation efforts.
