Unique Qualities:
The chickadee averages 12-15cm, and is recognized by its black cap and bib and white cheeks. It has greyish wings and a light coloured underside. You'll also know it by its “chicka-dee-dee-dee” song.
Can be Seen:
The chickadee is found across southern Canada and the northern United States.
Likes to Hang Out:
Chickadees live along the edges of forests, sometime venturing near towns and farms in the winter for their feeders.
Likes to Eat:
Chickadees forage all day for insects, spiders, slugs and snails, surviving on seeds in the winter.
Status:
Most chickadee populations are healthy, helped in the harsh winter months by the bird feeders and nest boxes people have in their yards.
