Guidelines
Please be sure to go over the following guidelines with your students to ensure their understanding and prevent disqualification and disappointment.
AGE:
- All grade levels are eligible to submit posters for the contest.
- Poster must be designed and created by a student or group of students
- Contest is limited to ONE entry per person (as part of a group or as an individual).
SIZE:
- Recommend standard bristol board size (22" x 28") or larger for putting on display outside for parents and cars to see.
MEDIA (Art supplies):
- Any art supplies may be used (water colour, tempera, pastels, colored pencils, ink, markers, crayons, chalk, paper or other materials).
- Posters can be flat or 3-dimensional
- Computer-assisted design is permitted. However, no clipart is allowed.
- Creativity, neatness and readability are essential.
RESTRICTIONS:
- Students’ artwork must be original -- ideas may not be taken from other sources, such as cartoon characters, celebrities or movie themes.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
- All entries will be placed on display for judging at the Earth Day Celebration on Earth Day, April 22.
- Posters should be submitted one week before, e.g. April 16, to give contest organizers enough time to get the poster display ready for April 22.
- Have students attach the simple entry form to the back of all posters being entered. The entry form can be re-used as a label for the poster when they are put on display for Earth Day (April 22nd).

For poster contests where submissions are completed
at home:
Have students confirm whether:
____ The poster is an original completed by the student.
OR
____ The student received assistance from another person or materials/ideas from another source. If so, have them explain on another piece of paper and submit it with the poster for the judges' consideration.
