In order to jump start your Switch off! campaign, you have a selection of 3 fun activities that your students can really turn on to. Student worksheets, hand-outs, and easy-to-read instructions are provided with each activity.
- Data Detectives
A great math activity. Student sleuths use the worksheets provided to collect data on the incidence of idling on their school grounds. This is a good way to measure if your Switch off! campaign succeeded in changing the behaviour of idling motorists. - Mini
Flyer
Get the word out onto the street! Your school is a Switch off! zone and there is no idling allowed. Use the mini flyer to spread the message across your community for the health of your students and the environment. - Poster Contest
Here's a chance for students to express how they feel about idling. Posters are a powerful tool for building awareness and can contribute to changing the habits of those who idle engines in your school area. Students can do the posters simply as part of their class activities or they can be entered in a school-wide contest.
EXTRA, EXTRA!
We recommend that Switch off! activities be carried out in the spring and/or fall before people start using the excuse that it is "too cold" to turn their engine off.
