You may have already heard a lot about climate change, but did you know that climate change will affect the North sooner than other places?
The average temperature in the North has risen by 5° Celsius in the last 100 years. This is a lot compared to the rise in the average temperature worldwide of 0.6° Celsius.
Climate change is of special concern in Polar Regions, including Canada’s North, because scientists have found that temperatures are increasing much faster in these areas than other parts of the world.
Animals and plants have developed special adaptations to survive in the climate of Canada’s North. Climate change could happen too fast for them to adapt to the new conditions of a warmer climate.
