Climate Change Essay Contest
Ontario Nature
This contest is open to students in Ontario only.
Grade seven and eight students are invited to submit an essay on the topic, "What will the environment be like in 2050?" The top three entries will be published in ON Nature Magazine. For more details on how to enter, check out ontarionature.org/events/challenge.html.
Solar Oven Challenge
This year get cooking with a Re-energy.ca solar oven. The Solar Oven Challenge will help students and teachers learn about renewable energy in a fun and engaging way. Students are encouraged to build a solar oven, test how hot it gets and create a yummy recipe to cook in it. Students can then share their work, on Earth Day, in their school or on the Re-energy.ca site. As of January 8th, there are still spots available for 10 more schools to register on green-street.ca.
The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes
The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes seeks nominations for its 2008 awards. The Barron Prize honours young people ages 8-18 who have made a significant positive difference to people and our planet. Each year, ten winners from the U.S. and Canada each receive $2,000 to support their service work or higher education. Half of each year's winners are chosen for their work to protect the environment. The deadline for nominations is April 30, 2008. Visit baronprize.org for more information.
Young Reporters for the Environment
Students are invited to become Young Reporters for the Environment! All students across Canada from grades five and six up to high school are eligible to enter. All articles and photos sent in by March 15, 2008 will be eligible for the Young Reporters for the Environment International Award.
